This session focuses on the understanding of gender and how it unfolds for men, women and other genders in different spheres of social action. It will debate on the core philosophies of women’s movements in the India and across the globe and the participation of men in these movements.
The session will lay emphasis on a “masculinities agenda” that has emerged outside the fields of women’s movement and gender and development. It will talk about the problematic of this masculinities agenda and the manner with which it deals with power. The session will go on to discuss how ‘masculinities’ is emerging as an important lens to understand the influences and compulsions that men face and the importance of interrogating and reforming the dominant idea of masculinities.
